A/Prof Kaushik (Kosh) Hazratwala is a leading Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in adult hip and knee reconstruction, sports injury surgery, and complex lower limb trauma. Based in Townsville for over 15 years, he serves as the most senior Orthopaedic Consultant at Townsville University Hospital, where he has led the department and mentored countless surgeons, medical students, and allied health professionals.
He is Director of the Queensland Lower Limb Clinic and Co-Director & CFO of the Orthopaedic Research Institute of Queensland (ORIQL), a not-for-profit dedicated to advancing musculoskeletal research and education. Through ORIQL, he runs Queensland’s only regional Arthroplasty Fellowship, training future specialists in advanced surgical techniques.
A/Prof Hazratwala is widely published, with 40+ peer-reviewed articles, and is recognized internationally as a leader in digital medical education, regularly presenting and hosting global webinars. He advises on industry on value based healthcare and is pioneering the same day arthroplasty in Australia. He is the pioneering surgeon to perfoerm this across the public and private sectors
In 2019, he became the first orthopaedic surgeon appointed Clinical Associate Professor at James Cook University, honoring his contributions to research, education, and innovation. He is also a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
His practice, the Queensland Lower Limb Clinic, operates from Townsville’s Mater Medical Centre and St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital in Brisbane, delivering super-specialized lower limb care across Queensland.
